Butter Chicken Karahi

Serves 4 persons


  • Whole Chicken with bones 800 g
  • Oil 1/4 cup
  • RS Butter 3-4 heaped tbsp
  • Canned Tomato 1/2 cup or 200 g
  • Garlic finely chopped 1-1/2 tbsp
  • Salt 1 tsp or as required
  • Red chili flakes 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 2 tsp
  • Garam masala powder 1 tsp
  • Black pepper crushed 1/4 tsp
  • Lemon juice 1 tbsp
  • Ginger 3 inch piece


  1. Heat a wok add oil and RS Butter.
  2. Add in chopped garlic, stir few seconds. We do not need any colour on it.
  3. Add in chicken and stir on high heat.
  4. Keep cooking on high heat almost for 15-20 minutes.
  5. After 20 minutes you will see colour on the chicken like shown in the picture and we exactly need this. If you feel your chicken is burning in between then reduce the heat a bit but make sure your chicken has this fried colour on it before adding any spices.
  6. Now add julian cut ginger (save some for garnish) coriander powder, red chili flakes, garam masala powder, salt and lemon juice.
  7. Stir and cook on high heat again for 2-3 minutes. The idea is to fry this julian ginger and spices. But be careful do not burn the spices. If you feel they are burning then add some water and keep cooking.
  8. Now add canned tomatoes.
  9. Stir and cook for 1 minute.
  10. Now reduce the the heat to low, cover and cook it for 10 minutes.
  11. Sprinkle crushed black pepper and julian ginger and chiaken karahi is done.
